Turkey reports drop in Q1 wire rod exports & value

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s wire rod exports amounted to around 289,000 tons in the first quarter of this year, falling by 17% compared to the same period a year ago. The export value also dropped by 26% year on year to roughly US$167 million.

Among them, Romania was the main export destination with roughly 125,000 tons, a year-on-year hike of 10%. Bulgaria followed with around 24,000 tons, falling by 16% year on year. Italy ranked third with about 19,000 tons, up by 16% year on year.

In March alone, Turkey exported about 186,000 tons of wire rod, a month-on-month surge of 290% and a year-on-year rise of 26%. The value of these exports reached approximately US$108 million, jumping by 293% month on month and up by 27% year on year.
