US’ carbon steel long product imports rise in May m-o-m

According to data from the US Department of Commerce, imports of carbon steel long products in May totaled about 340,000 tons, marking a 6.7% increase from the previous month. Among them, rebar imports showed the largest growth among product categories, rising 34.8% month on month.

In May, the primary imported carbon steel long products were wire rod at around 105,000 tons, rebar at 74,000 tons, heavy structural shapes at 46,000 tons, wire drawing at 45,000 tons, and hot-rolled bars at 43,000 tons.

By country, imports from Vietnam recorded the largest increase, rising by nearly 26,000 tons. Egypt followed with an increase of 22,000 tons, and Brazil added 13,000 tons. Other countries that saw notable growth in exports to the US included Malaysia, Mexico, and Turkey.
