Canadian provinces form pipeline, energy, critical minerals alliance

24 Jul 2025 16:16 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen the transportation and export of Western Canadian oil, natural gas, and critical minerals. This agreement is to explore new markets, enhance supply chains from extraction to port, and advocate for federal reforms.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework for exploring new pipeline and rail corridors and expanding critical mineral processing hubs. This collaboration seeks to create new avenues for reaching both domestic and international markets.

The premiers stressed the goal of building a self-reliant Canadian economy, with Ontario Premier Ford specifically referencing the need for such resilience in light of unfair tariffs imposed by US President Trump.
