Algeria's Ministry of Industry recently announced the signing of several partnership agreements with Italy, including a deal between the National Steel Holding Company (SNS) and Italian firm Danieli. This agreement focuses on building a new rebar production unit.

The project involves supplying equipment, completing engineering works, and installing a new rolling mill at the Al Solb (formerly Sider El Hadjar) complex. This addition will raise Al Solb's rebar production capacity by 800,000 tons, reaching a total of 1.4 million tons annually.

Beyond rebar, the two-year agreement also aims to conduct a feasibility study for an Algerian direct reduced iron plant utilizing electric arc furnaces, intended to support the Italian steel industry. The project, backed by Duferco Group, also considers renewable energy and green hydrogen for decarbonization.
