US' steel imports fall in Jul m-o-m, y-o-y

Preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Commerce showed that the US steel imports in July 2025 totaled about 2.03 million tons, down by 9.8% from June and 6.9% from the same month last year. In value terms, July imports amounted to US$2.19 billion, slightly above June’s US$2.13 billion but below US$2.72 billion in July 2024.

Top sources of US steel in June included South Korea (about 300,000 tons), Brazil (about 273,000 tons), Canada (about 273,000 tons), Mexico (230,000 tons), Taiwan (119,000 tons), and Germany (about 98,000 tons).

By product type, semi-finished steel imports totaled around 491,000 tons, flat products reached around 712,000 tons, long products totaled 374,000 tons, and pipe and tube imports totaled 372,000 tons. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), imported steel accounted for about 19% of the US market in July, unchanged from June.
