Yamato Steel upgrades Himeji heavy section mill with Japan's first CRS® roller straightener

Yamato Steel Co., Ltd., a Japanese beam and section producer, and SMS group have successfully commissioned Japan's first Compact Roller Straightener (CRS®) at Yamato Steel's heavy section mill in Himeji.

The new CRS® 2000-9H straightening machine, originally supplied by SMS group in 2024, features nine individually driven rollers and a 2000-millimeter pitch.

This modernization enhances operational efficiency and product quality for heavy sections and sheet piles. The CRS® design ensures precise and accurate adjustments, uniform product quality, and reduced residual stress in the finished products. Features like fully automatic roll changes and the Load Share Control (LSC) system raise energy efficiency and minimize production downtime.

This successful commissioning further secures the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
