The US imports of long steel products totaled about 215,000 tons in September, according to preliminary data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC). The volume fell roughly 31.2% from August’s preliminary figures, mainly due to a 62.7% month-on-month drop in wire rod.

The major long products imported during the month included around 60,000 tons of heavy structural steel shapes, 44,000 tons of wire rod for drawing, 40,000 tons of wire rod, 38,000 tons of hot-rolled steel bar, and 10,000 tons of rebar.

Imports from Egypt declined by about 27,000 tons, followed by a 26,000-ton decrease in shipments from Vietnam. Higher imports from Germany and the UK, up by 10,000 tons and 8,000 tons respectively, partially offset the overall decline.
