Zekelman wins curbs on Mexican steel conduit imports in Pennsylvania

Zekelman Industries, the largest independent steel pipe and tube maker, has won a legal battle against the Republic of Mexico in Pennsylvania. The state's Commonwealth Court ruled in favor of Zekelman's company, Wheatland Tube, finding that Mexico's trade practices discriminate against Pennsylvania-made steel.

This landmark decision immediately prohibits public agencies and contractors in Pennsylvania from purchasing or using steel conduit products made in Mexico for any public works project. The court's order adds Mexico to the Foreign Registry Docket for discriminatory trade practices, aiming to protect the domestic steel industry and ensure fair competition.

Zekelman Executive Chairman and CEO Barry Zekelman called the ruling a monumental step for American steel manufacturers. The court victory followed a 2024 legal challenge against unfair trade practices.
