Salzgitter Group secures key contracts to supply pipes for Germany's hydrogen pipeline network

4 Mar 2026 14:59 reported by Lily Nguyen

A A A
ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH has awarded significant contracts to two Salzgitter Group subsidiaries, Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH (MGR) and Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH (MLP), to supply line pipes covering 70.6 km and 38.2 km, respectively. The pipes are intended for the FGL 702 project, a hydrogen pipeline linking Wefensleben, Salzgitter, Angersdorf, and Preußlitz.

This pipeline forms a key component of Germany's broader hydrogen core network and energy transition strategy. A central motivation for the project is enabling "green steel" production at Salzgitter's integrated steelworks, which are being converted in phases to low-carbon manufacturing.

Hydrogen is an essential input for this transformation under the SALCOS® program, making rapid connection to the hydrogen core network a matter of critical importance.
