The investigation into the alleged dumping of iron or steel wire rod imports from China has entered a crucial stage in Peru. The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI), is currently evaluating the evidence presented to decide whether to impose definitive anti-dumping (AD) duties.

However, several companies in Peru have expressed their strong opposition to the imposition of AD duties on wire rod from China. They argue that this measure does not seek fair competition, but rather exclusively benefit the national steelmaker Aceros Arequipa, consolidating a monopoly in the national supply of this critical material, given that its capacity is insufficient to meet total market demand.

For the opposing companies, imported wire rod is vital to maintaining the operational efficiency and competitiveness of their manufacturing processes. They argue that applying provisional tariffs will distort final prices and jeopardize the viability of numerous projects, benefiting a single corporation at the expense of the entire value chain.
