Thai authorities halt BNS Steel Group’s operations for violating rebar and billet capacity ban

Thailand’s Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has ordered BNS Steel Group to halt all activities at its facility in WHA Chonburi Industrial Estate 1.

An inspection on April 9, 2026, revealed the company breached a 2025 nationwide ban on establishing or expanding factories that produce rebars or small billets for reinforced concrete.

Although the firm previously held permits dating back to 1993, its license was revoked in May 2025 due to waste management failures and illegal production of sub-standard steel. Despite losing its legal status, the company recently installed machinery for unauthorized test runs.

Pornyod Klankrong, Director General of DIW, said that the 2025 regulations prohibit new or expanded production capacity in these specific sectors to address industry oversupply. The department is now pursuing full legal action against the producer.
