Baker Hughes: US & Canada’s rig counts slide w-o-w for week ending Apr 17

According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on April 17, 2026, the US rig count was down by two to 543 units compared to the previous week.

Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas fell by two to 125 units, that for oil dropped by one to 410 units, and miscellaneous rigs rose by one to eight. The total number had a year-on-year decline of 42 units, or approximately 7%.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count decreased by five to 130 units from the previous week, including 53 gas rigs (up by one week on week), 77 oil rigs (down by six week on week), and zero miscellaneous rigs (unchanged week on week). Canada’s rig number fell by four units compared to the same period a year ago.
