Hebei province targets over 20 green steel product lines for 2026

China’s top steelmaking region, Hebei, plans to launch over 20 green steel product categories in 2026 as part of its annual priorities. The move follows the debut of the Hebei Green Steel brand earlier this year, the first provincial low‑CO2 label aimed at boosting downstream take‑up.

The provincial industry department said that it will not only release more than 20 green steel categories but also run targeted promotions to match those products with ten key steel‑consuming sectors inside the province.

Hebei also plans to back green electricity and green hydrogen metallurgy, helping mills set up direct green power links through self‑built facilities or market deals. Priority will go to hydrogen‑based Zhangxuan Technology (part of HBIS Group) to tap nearby wind and solar resources, link renewables and green hydrogen with low‑CO2 steel output, and create a zero‑carbon model.

In March, Hebei issued its first 27 products under the green brand, mostly commodity grades like rebar, billet, and hot‑rolled coil. Beyond the green push, the province aims to fill supply gaps with high‑end products.

The agenda also includes four “AI + Steel” demonstration projects and bulk procurement of iron ore and coke to cut costs.
