South32, a mining and metals company headquartered in Australia, has withdrawn production guidance for its aluminum smelter in Mozambique due to widespread protests in the region. Road blockages were affecting the transport of raw materials to the Mozal plant, although the workforce remained safe and there were no security incidents.

CEO Graham Kerr stated that the situation is manageable but requires monitoring.

South32 has implemented contingency plans to address the disruptions, without giving more details.

Mozal is a key export contributor to Mozambique, generating US$1.1 billion in exports in 2023.
