China’s SPIC to build largest alumina processing plant in Guinea

7 Jan 2025 15:59 reported by Joy Liu

China’s State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) is planning to build an alumina processing plant with an annual output of 1.2 million tons in Guinea. The construction will start in March and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. The plant will surpass the current largest alumina refinery, Friguia, operated by Rusal.

Additionally, SPIC will also build a 250-megawatt power plant to supply 100 megawatts to the national grid.

Guinea's military government has been demanding local processing facilities, saying that SPIC should start commercial production by December 2028 or would risk losing its mining concession.
