Canada is advancing sustainable nickel production with the development of an innovative processing facility backed by government support, promising a significant boost to domestic output.

Canada Nickel Company, through its subsidiary NetZero Metals Inc., will establish a state-of-the-art nickel processing facility near Timmins, Ontario, close to its Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project. 

The project aims to refine nickel concentrates and third-party materials into nickel and nickel-cobalt products. Supported by a US$500,000 grant from Ontario's Critical Minerals Innovation Fund, this initiative underscores Ontario's commitment to clean technology and reducing carbon emissions.

The facility will utilize biochar, a renewable alternative to traditional coal-based materials, significantly cutting carbon intensity. Once operational, it is expected to produce over 75,000 tonnes of nickel annually, positioning Ontario as a leader in sustainable critical mineral production.

This development reflects Canada's leadership in fostering innovation and building a reliable supply chain for the global energy transition.
