In 2025, China’s steel industry has to accelerate its green and low-carbon transition. The inclusion of the steel industry in the national carbon market has entered the operational stage, and 2025 is the final year of the CBAM transition period, indicating higher demand for green development for the steel sector.

Joining the national carbon market is crucial for the steel industry’s carbon management, linking carbon emission reductions to economic benefits. Low-carbon metallurgy and advanced energy-saving technologies, supported by digitization, intelligence, and networking, will promote the innovation and application of low-carbon technologies in the steel industry.

Experts stressed the growing importance of foreign markets, especially the EU, which has great potential for high-end exports. Chinese companies should prepare for the collection, processing, and submission of carbon tariff-related information.
