Israel appeals to citizens to install solar panels on roofs to generate power

Israel's government is appealing to its citizens to help generate power and profit from it by getting solar panels on their roofs as demand increases rapidly.

Around 15% of Israel's electricity production at this moment is generated by renewable energy. The Energy Ministry's target is 30% by 2030, and it aims to have net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Some households had already been generating their energy and selling the extra to the national grid, but the Energy Ministry aims to expand this further.

On February 4, the sustainable energy division launched a website that allows residents to enter their address and it will show the available space for solar panel installation. The website also calculates the potential electricity generation and estimates the earnings from selling any extra power.
