Germany’s Ilsenburger Grobblech to supply heavy plates to Siemens Gamesa for wind tower manufacturing

A A A
Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, a subsidiary of German steel manufacturer Salzgitter AG, has inked a contract with Siemens Gamesa to supply 25,000 tons of low-emission heavy plates for 36 wind towers, named ‘Siemens Gamesa GreenerTower.’

These towers emit less than 700 kg CO2eq per tonne of steel, greatly reducing wind turbine emissions.

The first deployment will take place at Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, ‘Thor,’ with completion planned by the end of 2027. A total of 72 wind towers will supply more than one million Danish households.

Ilsenburger Grobblech and Mannesmann Grobblech will provide these heavy plates, using low-emission slabs from Peiner Träger and other European sources. The delivery of heavy plates to wind tower manufacturers Spain’s Windar and Denmark’s Welcon will be carried out from March to October this year.
