In alignment with its commitment to reducing carbon emissions, Tata Steel Limited in India has initiated the deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) at its coal mines in Ramgarh. This move is also expected to contribute to lower operational costs.

In the initial phase, 36 EVs have been put into service for mine inspections and other operational tasks. This will be followed by the deployment of 11 additional EVs in the next phase, which together are projected to reduce carbon emissions by 43 tons. Subsequently, the deployment of 36 more EVs is forecasted to reduce carbon emissions by 127 tons.

Furthermore, Tata Steel is conducting trials for the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG)-based dump trucks at all its mines to further reduce the company's carbon footprint.
