Norway to introduce CBAM in 2027

12 Mar 2025 13:58 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Norway will introduce its own Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in 2027 to ensure fair carbon pricing and prevent carbon leakage.

Supported by the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet), the mechanism will impose a carbon tax on imports from countries with weaker environmental standards.

Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Finance, emphasized CBAM's role in supporting Norwegian competitiveness and encouraging other countries to formulate carbon regulation.

Miljødirektoratet will be responsible for the implementation of CBAM and the coordination works, and the Tax Administration and the Customs Administration will also assist in important tasks.
