A A A
The main sources of renewable energy in the EU are wind power and hydropower, accounting for 39.1% and 29.9% respectively. In 2024, the EU's dependence on fossil fuels gradually decreased, and the share of renewable energy increased to 46.9%, which was an important step in achieving the EU's climate goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Denmark has become the leader in the EU's green electricity share, with 88.4% of its electricity generated from wind farms, followed by Portugal's 87.5% with wind and hydropower and Croatia's 73.7% with mainly hydropower.

In addition, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced in February that it would allocate EUR 400 million to build the largest wind farm in the EU in Polish waters, with an installed capacity of 1.5 gigawatts.
