Novelis has achieved a breakthrough in aluminium recycling by producing the first-ever coil made entirely from 100% end-of-life (EOL) automotive scrap. This innovation marks a major step toward a more circular aluminium industry, reducing dependence on virgin materials and significantly cutting carbon emissions. 

The recycled aluminium was sourced through the Automotive Circularity Platform (ACP), a partnership with Thyssenkrupp Materials Services, which enhances material recovery and supply chain efficiency through digitalisation.

Recycling aluminium consumes 95% less energy than primary aluminium production, making it a key solution for reducing industrial emissions. Novelis already provides aluminium with up to 85% recycled content and promotes circularity through closed-loop recycling systems.

Michael Hahne, Vice President and General Manager, Automotive, at Novelis Europe, said automakers trust the company to decarbonize while ensuring performance, adding that its 100% recycled aluminium advances sustainability and meets industry demands.
