China plans to increase domestic bauxite reserves by 3-5% and raise recycled aluminum production to more than 15 million tons by 2027, according to the Aluminum Industry High-Quality Development Plan (2025-2027) issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and nine other government departments.

The plan is aimed at strengthening China’s aluminum supply chain, enhancing raw material supply, driving technological innovation, promoting sustainable development, advancing aluminum processing hubs, and increase energy efficiency, with over 30% of electrolytic aluminum capacity becoming energy-efficient and clean energy usage reaching at least 30%.

In terms of technological goals, China plans to advance its low-carbon smelting and precision processing. By 2035, China aims to lead the global aluminum industry with a high-quality development framework.
