Novelis Inc., a Georgia-based industrial aluminum company, will close two facilities this year.

The Fairmont, West Virginia plant will shut down permanently by June 30, affecting over 200 employees. The site produces more than 435 various sheet and light gauge fin/foil products. Novelis said the closure was due to the US operations consolidation.

The Richmond, Virginia facility will close on May 30, impacting 72 employees. Acquired in 2020 from Aleris, the plant produces aluminum rolled sheet for the building and construction industry. The closure was also owing to the company’s consolidation strategy.

Despite the closures, Novelis has been investing in new projects, including a recycling and rolling plant in Alabama, a recycling center in Kentucky, and expanding its Logan Aluminum joint venture.
