Matalco, a leading producer of aluminum slab and billet based in Canada, announced a permanent closure of a manufacturing plant in Stark County, Ohio, scheduled for June 6, within a period of 90 days. The closure would result in a layoff of 71 employees.

Based in Brampton, Ontario, the company submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) to the state on April 8. According to the notice, some of the affected employees would be offered jobs at one of the company’s other five US plants in Lordstown, Indiana, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

Matalco, a producer of recycled aluminum slab and billet for extruded, forged, and rolled products, employed more than 650 people in the US and Canada as of July 2023. Its 100,000-square-foot facility on Louisville Street, built in 1996, is valued at US$3.3 million.
