Apple's push for recycled aluminum cuts emissions by 76%

Apple's focus on using recycled or renewable sources for 15 key materials, including aluminum, rare earths, and lithium, is significantly cutting its manufacturing emissions. The company's 2025 report showed a 60% greenhouse gas reduction since 2015, aiming for a 75% cut by 2030, while revenue grew by 65% to US$391 billion.

In 2024, Apple reported 41 million tons of avoided emissions, with 15% attributed to using recycled materials. Recycled content made up 24% of Apple products in 2024, with the MacBook Air containing the most, at 55%.

Apple prioritized 15 materials in its recycled content transition, representing 87% of its production mass, aiming for carbon neutrality through low-carbon and recycled materials.

71% of Apple's aluminum in 2024 was recycled, and this initiative has reduced related emissions by 76% since 2015. Apple is also investing in a Canadian venture, Elysis, for the commercialization of a zero-emission aluminum smelting process.
