Enagas to invest EUR 2.6 billion in Spain's hydrogen network

28 Apr 2025 15:28 reported by Margaret Yeh

The chief of Spanish gas grid operator Enagas said that they plan to build a 2,600 km (1,615 mile) hydrogen network in Spain. The investment will be around EUR 2.6 billion, and they plan to make a final investment decision in 2027 and start construction next year and run operations in 2030.

Enagas is a determined supporter in green hydrogen industry, which uses green energy for its production, unfortunately it still has issues such as high costs, subsidies, and difficulties to find buyers.

The company will build new pipelines as well as some repurposed gas assets to adapt themselves to gas demand falling situation in Spain. It is also working on ammonia and CO2 capture. These plans are a good fit with Spain's green agenda.
