Czech Třinecké Železárny postpones decarbonization investment plans

29 Apr 2025 16:03 reported by Iona Chen

A A A
Třinecké Železárny, the largest Czech steelmaker, has announced a postponement of the completion date for its decarbonization investment. The project is expected to be completed in 2030 at the earliest, two years later than the previously announced date of 2028. This investment plan aims to reduce the company's carbon dioxide emissions by 55% compared to 1990.

The delayed investment is mainly modifications in steel equipment, including the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) and associated infrastructure. The EAF implementation postponement is due to weak public support, Green Deal rules uncertainty, a poor steel market, and unclear import protection rules.

Třinecké Železárny will continue to engage in active negotiations with the Czech government and the European Union to secure adequate support for the seamless implementation of the project.
