China's steel industry planned to progressively reduce carbon dioxide emissions, aiming for 40%, 85%, and 95% by 2040, 2050, and 2060, respectively.

China's steel industry aims to achieve its goals through enhanced energy efficiency, increased recycling, technological advancements, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage. The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) stated that reducing steel production will help decrease carbon emissions by 41% by 2060, projecting that China's steel production will be approximately 800 million tons by that year.

In addition, China will increasingly utilize renewable energy instead of coke as it changes to its energy structure. Meanwhile, Chinese steel mills will also incorporate more scrap steel than they currently do, significantly reducing emissions.
