Novelis produces world's first 100% recycled automotive aluminum coil

6 May 2025 13:57 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Novelis Inc., a Georgia-based industrial aluminum company, has announced the production of the world’s first-ever aluminum coil made completely from 100% recycled, end-of-life automotive scrap. This achievement was developed for the European automotive market and marks an important step towards circularity and sustainability for the auto industry.

The innovative material meets high standards for car body outer skin applications. The aluminum scrap was sourced via the Automotive Circularity Platform (ACP), a collaboration with thyssenkrupp Materials Services aimed at streamlining access to high-quality, end-of-life recycled automotive material.

Novelis, which already supplies automakers with products containing up to 85% recycled content, has a goal to expand the adoption of this technology to enable higher recycled content in future vehicles.
