Vale in Oman signed a Head of Agreement (HOA) with OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) during Oman Sustainability Week, aiming to decarbonize its operations and transition to renewable energy. The partnership outlined a framework to develop renewable energy solutions for powering Vale’s pelletizing plant in Sohar Port and meeting the future energy demands of the upcoming Green Metallic Mega Hub in Duqm.

The agreement set a framework for cooperation in energy supply, land coordination, and long-term planning, all geared toward integrating renewable power into Vale’s industrial activities. Saleh Al Muslahi of Vale emphasized that the deal marks a strategic step toward large-scale decarbonization, requiring partnerships and infrastructure readiness.

OQAE CEO Najla Zuhair Al Jamali highlighted the agreement as a foundation for sustainable industrial development in Oman. Vale aimed to power its Sohar plant entirely with renewable electricity by 2030 and support low-carbon steel production through the planned mega hub in Duqm, reinforcing its global commitment to a net-zero future.
