HES International B.V., a Netherlands-based bulk handling company, and Binding Solutions, a UK-based technology company, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to evaluate building a cold pelletizing plant for iron ore at HES's HBTR terminal in Rotterdam, with an aim to produce high-value iron ore cold agglomerated pellets (CAPs) for large-scale production of green steel.

Binding Solutions' patented technology significantly reduces energy consumption by up to 80% and CO2 emissions by up to 70% compared to traditional high-temperature processes.

The initial phase for the project envisions a 400,000-ton-per-year plant, with plans for expansion to 1-3 million tons annually. This project is in line with HES's goal to strengthen HBTR terminal's role in sustainable steel supply chain and logistics capacity in Europe.
