Emsteel partners with Danieli to boost green DRI operations in UAE

26 May 2025 15:57 reported by Julian Lu

A A A
UAE steelmaker Emsteel is enhancing its green steel production by installing an e-PGH Pilot (electric Process-Gas Heater) at its DRI plant #1 at Abu Dhabi works. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Italian plantmaker Danieli and Tenova, using Energiron technology to reduce carbon emissions.

The new equipment, developed jointly by Kanthal and Danieli, features Prothal® DH technology for modular, electric heating in DRI plants and blast furnaces. This solution aims to support decarbonization through efficient electric heating systems.

Emsteel and Danieli will also work with Khalifa University to model the DRI process and electrical grid effects from a new electric heater and renewable power variability.
