GAC seeks talks to end Guinea bauxite mine blockade

29 May 2025 15:01 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), a subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), announced this Tuesday that it hoped to resume discussions with the Guinean government to lift measures blocking its bauxite mine operations.

GAC's mining and exporting activities have been halted since last October, with reports indicating Guinea is withdrawing its license for failure to build an alumina refining plant.

GAC strongly denied these claims, saying it has always fulfilled all obligations under the agreements signed with Guinea. The company stated that the government's actions have hindered its operations, leading to a complete shutdown in December 2024 and significant financial losses.

GAC hoped for friendly negotiations to lift all blockades. However, Guinea's military government has not yet commented.
