US President Trump has announced an increase in tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, raising the rate from 25% to 50%. The new tariff is scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, June 4.

The American Primary Aluminum Association, a non-profit trade association based in Washington, D.C., quickly applauded the move, with President Mark Duffy stating it would stop the flood of foreign aluminum imports. He said that the tariffs are crucial for rebuilding domestic aluminum manufacturing and protecting American aluminum jobs, which have been impacted by subsidized foreign producers for decades.
