Hecate Energy & Tosyali Algerie to launch green hydrogen project in Algeria

4 Jun 2025 14:01 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
US-based Hecate Energy will partner with Tosyali Algerie, one of Africa’s largest steel manufacturers, to develop a major green hydrogen plant in Algeria to support green steel production.

Sonatrach stated that the integrated green hydrogen project is based on studies carried out in 2024 by Hecate and Tosyali. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is expected to be signed between Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned Sonelgaz company, Hecate, and Tosyali to move the project forward.

The project will be implemented in two phases: the first for feasibility and profitability studies, and the second for construction, contributing to Algeria’s energy transition goals. No information was provided on cost, location, or production capacity.

Algeria aims to increase renewables to 27% of its energy mix by 2026. EU and German BMZ-backed studies, valued at EUR28 million, support green hydrogen development and emissions reduction.
