The steel industry is encountering significant obstacles in its transition to low-carbon technologies, according to Sylvia Winiarek-Erdogan, spokeswoman for ArcelorMittal Poland. She stated that steel producers are unable to bear the financial burden of this transformation on their own.

Winiarek-Erdogan stressed the critical role of steel in the energy transition, pointing out that essential components such as photovoltaic panels, wind farms, and electric vehicles rely on steel production.

ArcelorMittal Poland is under pressure to decarbonize its operations, which involves building new facilities and adopting innovative technologies. However, rising energy prices are proving to be a major barrier to implementing these plans. The steel industry is calling for a reduction in energy costs to help facilitate the shift to more sustainable production methods.
