International technology group Andritz has opened a new gigafactory for electrolyzers in Erfurt, Germany, with a production capacity of up to 1.1 GW, or approximately 160 to 200 electrolyzers annually.

The facility, which has been producing key components for green hydrogen since March, is aimed at meeting the growing demand for green hydrogen in Europe. Production levels can be adjusted based on customer needs. The electrolyzers utilize the latest technology from Andritz’s partner, HydrogenPro. The first units produced at the Erfurt plant are destined for Salzgitter AG’s 100 MW hydrogen plant, which supports low-carbon steel production.
