Japan’s steelmaker Kobe Steel has announced that its Kobenable Premier low-carbon blast furnace steel will be used in the production of hoist cranes. Nakajima Sangyo will utilize Kobenable Premier for five new 2.8-ton hoist cranes entering the market, with plans to also adopt it in a future 30-ton crane.

Kobenable Premier achieves a 100% reduction in carbon emissions during steelmaking through the mass balance method, a method that certifies steel products as low CO2 emission intensity by allocating manufacturers' CO2 reductions, per Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) guidelines, maintaining quality across various products from Kobe Steel's Kakogawa Works.

Kobe Steel has a goal of carbon neutrality for its current medium-term management plan in fiscal year 2024-2026, and it believes that the project will help achieve this goal.
