SSAB, a Sweden-based steel company, has reached an agreement with Polmotors, a Tier 1 automotive supplier, for future deliveries of fossil-free steel. This collaboration focuses on using decarbonized steel in structural automotive components and assemblies.

The partnership will explore how fossil-free materials can perform in demanding automotive applications. Polmotors, which manufactures crash management systems (CMSs) such as bumpers and rally bars for major automakers, sees a competitive advantage in adopting fossil-free steel early.

Polmotors CEO Maciej Graboś stated their readiness for joint research and development with SSAB and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to use these new steel grades in their products, addressing anticipated market demand from premium automotive OEMs.
