Tosyali Algeria signs MoU for green hydrogen steel project

Tosyali Algeria, the Algerian subsidiary of Turkey’s Tosyali Holding, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil company, and US-based Hecate Energy. The agreement aims to develop a renewable energy-powered green hydrogen project for low-carbon steel production.

Tosyali stated that this strategic collaboration marks a significant step toward supporting Algeria’s energy transition and promoting sustainable industrial development. This initiative follows a prior MoU signed in July 2024 between Tosyali Algeria and Sonatrach to begin a feasibility study on green hydrogen use in steelmaking.

The project will be carried out in two stages, beginning with a study to assess feasibility, applicability, and commercial viability, followed by the development and implementation of the green hydrogen production facilities.
