EGA begins production at new low-carbon aluminum smelting pilot

1 Jul 2025 13:22 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a premium aluminum producer based in the UAE, has initiated hot metal production at pilot reduction cells for its newest aluminum smelting technology, EX. This pilot project at Al Taweelah is a step towards industrial-scale production and forms the basis for EGA's future low-carbon primary aluminum expansion.

The EX technology is EGA's tenth generation, developed over 35 years in the UAE. This technology aims to produce more aluminum with less energy and lower emissions. The new cells offer higher productivity per square meter than its DX+ Ultra technology. It is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of aluminum by approximately 5% for the more productive version and about 12% for the lower-energy variant.
