A A A
According to statistics from the Japan Aluminum Association (JAA), Japan's aluminum demand reached 895,100 tons in the first quarter of 2025, increasing by 1.4% year on year. Domestic demand grew by 1.3% to nearly 860,000 tons, while exports had a 4.6% rise to 35,300 tons.

The transportation sector led this growth, with demand increasing by 3% to 393,400 tons, accounting for nearly 45% of total consumption. The food sector also showed strong performance, with a 5% increase to 97,400 tons. However, demand from the building and construction sector, the second-largest consumption, fell by 3.3% to 87,500 tons due to fewer new housing starts and decreased consumption of housing-used aluminum.

In terms of imports, Japan imported 244,200 tons of primary aluminum in the first quarter, up by 0.3% year on year. Imports of recycled alloyed aluminum were 275,000 tons, an increase of 2.1%, and those of aluminum waste and scrap were 22,200 tons.
