Tata Steel UK launches ADAPT-EAF research program

On July 14, Tata Steel UK announced the launch of ADAPT-EAF (Accelerating the Development of Automotive and Packaging Steel Technology for Electric Arc Furnace Production), a groundbreaking research program designed to develop next-generation, high-performance steel products using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

The initiative focuses on transforming steel production for two key sectors: automotive manufacturing, particularly for vehicle body components, and packaging applications, including food container production.

The project will develop an AI-powered platform, which will predict how scrap materials affect steel quality and processing, allowing new steel grades to be quickly designed that are optimized for EAF production.

The timing of this announcement is particularly notable, coming closely after Tata Steel UK broke ground on its new EAF facility at the Port Talbot steel mill, which demonstrates the company's commitment to advancing EAF technology across its operations.
