On July 7, 2025, Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, led a virtual meeting with representatives from 11 EU countries to discuss the future of energy-intensive industries. Convened under the “Alliance for the Future of Energy-Intensive Industries,” the meeting focused on boosting the competitiveness of Europe’s chemical sector and accelerating green transformation.

Urso emphasized Italy’s leadership in developing bio-based materials and called for streamlined regulations and EU-level financial tools. He also stressed the steel industry's strategic role, advocating scrap export restrictions and investing in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) to achieve decarbonization and industrial autonomy across Europe.
