India's NRL extends green hydrogen tender deadline on Assam incentive policy uncertainty

22 Jul 2025 16:50 reported by Margaret Yeh

Green hydrogen, produced with renewable electricity, is considered vital for decarbonizing heavy industries and transportation. India’s Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) announced the green hydrogen tender last year, making it one of the most prominent tenders launched in the country to promote green electricity.

However, NRL has extended the bid submission deadline for its green hydrogen project in Assam from July 23 to August 6.

Assam initially announced incentives in February but later cut transmission subsidies and raised bank guarantees in June without explanation.

The Harit Molecules Foundation (HMF), representing hydrogen developers in India, had requested the extension due to unclear incentives and project complexity.
