SSAB & EMW sign long-term deal for fossil-free steel

25 Jul 2025 13:07 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
SSAB and EMW Steel Service Centre signed a long-term partnership for future deliveries of fossil-free steel, supporting EMW’s goal to reduce the carbon footprint of its products. CO2-reduced steel already plays a central role in EMW’s business strategy.

EMW, part of the SCHÄFER WERKE Group in Neunkirchen, Germany, is one of Europe’s largest independent steel service centers. It supplies coils, slit-strips, cut-to-size formats, and circular blanks to the steel processing and automotive industries.

The partnership builds on existing cooperation from sales to production to testing and customer experience. SSAB’s HYBRIT® technology adapts hydrogen-reduced sponge iron, removing the primary source of CO2 emissions with water as a by-product, instead of CO2.
