Mineral Resources (MinRes), an Australian mining company, is deploying a combination of gas and renewables for clean energy solutions at its Onslow Iron project in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The Ken’s Bore mine site, 200km southwest of Onslow, is now fully powered by a hybrid gas and solar system.

This system supplies energy to essential site infrastructure and facilities, as well as the company’s Mungala Resort.

At its core, the Ken’s Bore power station has an installed capacity of 26MW, projected to displace 60 million liters of diesel annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40,000 tons per year.

The integrated system includes a 3.8MW solar array and a 3.3MW battery storage system, which together enable a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel-only operations.

MinRes plans for future expansion to further cut emissions and support full mine electrification.
