Hydro Aluminium has ordered a batch homogenization plant from Hertwich Engineering for its aluminum recycling facility in Torija, Spain. This new equipment includes three homogenization furnaces, two cooling chambers, a billet saw, an ultrasonic testing station, and a packing station.

The furnaces feature a step cooling system and bidirectional airflow system, which enables rapid, uniform temperature changes, increasing energy efficiency and cutting energy consumption. According to Gerold Keune, Hertwich's managing director, this technology supports Hydro's commitment to consistent, high-quality products globally.

Scheduled to begin operations in 2026, the plant will produce 120,000 tons of low-carbon recycled aluminum billets annually. These billets will supply European transport, automotive, construction, renewable energy installations, and consumer durable industries.
